365 Days of Writing: Day 7

Just finished my 1000 words. Read through the first two chapters and made slight edits. Productive day. Wrote in my “other” blog this morning, about the weird dream I had. I guess the bottom line is that I’m writing. Often. Daily. Which is what I’ve been trying to do for more than a year, now. So KUDOS to me for finally getting there. Now, if only I could motivate myself to exercise, I’d be near perfect.

Plan: Get up early tomorrow and write for two hours straight. Finish two chapters by Wednesday night. Putting the bits and pieces together is harder than I thought it would be. Going from my notebook to the computer, things change. Ideas expand. Will I ever stop re-writing as I go? Leave it alone, I say. Leave it alone!

Have to remember that the goal, for now, is not perfection. The goal is to get the story down. There are some characters that are dangling over there, waiting for me to fit them in where they belong.

Tomorrow.

Goodnight for now.

365 Days of Writing: Day 6

After a late, late Saturday night, I was up early and started writing. With a lofty 1000 words a day — write / rewrite — I need to get busy before the house came to life. The day promised to be sunny, so I knew that I would be tempted to leave my self-imposed confinement and soak in the sunshine. I spent a good part of the morning writing. Consuming far too much coffee and forgetting to eat breakfast. But I was on a roll. The hours flew by.  FacebookI untethered myself from Facebook / Twitter / Blog stats and just wrote. The temptation to refresh the page, catch up on what’s going on outside my office is far too great. I have no discipline. Well, some, but on a soon-to-be-sunny Sunday morning, I’m waivering.

I read through the first two chapters again and found places that needed fixing. Bad idea. Spent far too much time on that task.  Just need to continue on. Finish the first draft. I have given myself a deadline of May 31. Let’s see how close I come to finishing it by then.

Tomorrow is a work day. Ugh. The weekend is endign too soon.  My plan is to be up by 6 and get finished the chapter I was working on today.

Tweaking timelines and making sure that all is in line: so-and-so died when she was XX, and so if she was XX when her daughter moved out…and she had that life changing experience when she was XX, how old was the daughter? This is where all the notes come into play. Keeping all the dates and ages and connections clear. I’d be lost without them.

Until tomorrow.
